1950s United States Power Squadron Defiance flag made by Annin. The Power Squadron of the Boston Yacht Club was founded in 1914 to educate and train pilots in the new sport of power boating. They trained many men who would go on to become WWI naval officers. This flag is flown as a signal to others that the boat is commanded by an active member of U.S. Power Squadron. The Power Squadron flag is a variant on the flag for pleasure boaters which were created so that pleasure vessels could bypass the customs inspections required of trading ships. Annin Defiance flags are known for their exceptional quality and highly sought after. The company was founded in New York in the 1820s, and is the oldest American flag maker still in operation. Flag has great patina, and measures 17" x 21.5" in gold finished wood frame.
