Vintage American yacht ensign flag mounted on tan herringbone fabric. International maritime law requires that vessels have a “national character” and that they display an ensign that represents their country of origin, especially when in international or foreign waters. This U.S. Yacht Ensign was created by an Act of Congress in August 1848, and is still used by yachts and recreational boats today. Flag in gold finished vintage wood frame with peeks of old blue paint underneath 18” x 22”. Mounted under glass. Flag has great patina. Frame in very good, vintage condition with light wear.
