Vintage American yacht ensign flag mounted on duck cloth. International maritime law requires that vessels have a “national character” and that they display an ensign that represents their country of origin, especially when in international or foreign waters. This U.S. Yacht Ensign was created by an Act of Congress in August 1848, and is still used by yachts and recreational boats today. Flag in gold finished vintage wood frame measures 21.75" x 28". Mounted under glass. Flag has light patina. Frame in very good, vintage condition with light wear.
