Sepp Frank (1889–1970) was a German painter, printmaker, glass artist, and illustrator known for his highly detailed etchings and bookplate designs. Born Joseph August Frank in Miesbach, Bavaria, he studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts and developed a style influenced by Gothic and Renaissance traditions. His work frequently depicted architectural scenes, landscapes, religious imagery, and historical subjects with exceptional precision and atmosphere.
Alongside his graphic work, Frank created stained glass commissions for churches and public buildings throughout Germany, including several notable ecclesiastical projects in Munich. He also illustrated literary works such as Goethe’s Ballads, Hamlet, and The Tales of Hoffmann. Many of his works reflected a deep appreciation for European history, craftsmanship, and classical design.
Today, Sepp Frank’s etchings and illustrations are admired for their technical skill, intricate composition, and timeless old-world character, making them especially appealing to collectors of early 20th-century German art.
