Paul N. Kitchin (American, 1954-2002) sailboat portrait oil painting on wood panel. Signed on the reverse. Artwork in contemporary gold wood frame measures 22.75" x 26.75". Artwork in good condition with light wear - light, age appropriate discoloration of varnish. Frame in very good condition.
Paul Kitchin trained and worked as a sign painter and gilder in England before moving to the United States. He first landed in California where he opened a furniture store selling his own handcrafted furnishings. He began painting pictures for his store, and was encouraged to become a full-time artist. He then relocated to New Orleans, where he led the interior restoration of the Latter Memorial Library. He eventually settled in Lynchburg, Virginia where he continued to create primitive art. He supplied paintings to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and was responsible for restoring several historic properties in Lynchburg.
