Early 20th century Fauvist portrait by notable California artist Judith Chamberlain (American, 1893-1965). Oil painting on a heavily textured canvas. Initialed lower left. The striking subject and her blue dress pops against a chartreuse background. Period wormy chestnut frame measures 25 1/2" by 21 1/2". The art alone measures 20" by 16". Artist was a San Francisco resident, studied in New York City and Paris, was a pupil of Max Weber. She exhibited with the San Francisco Art Association and Salon des Independents, Paris. Both painting and frame are in very good condition with very minor age appropriate wear.
