Frants George Carl Landt (1885-1975) portrait of a sailship in seascape with a steamship trailing closely behind. Perhaps a commentary on old world vs. new world. Artwork in ornate gold laurel leaf decorated frame measures 20.5" x 26". Artwork and frame in very good, age appropriate condition with light scattered wear.

Landt started drawing ships in 1912, but soon the crayons were replaced with oil colors. During the 1920s onwards he gained a reputation as a very skilled marine artist, and in that capacity, he joined Danish king Christian X on his trip to Iceland and the Faroe Islands in 1936, and in 1952 he embarked on another royal expedition following king Frederik IX on his excursion to Greenland. His choice of scenes are almost exclusively seascapes.
