Thomas Simpson (English, 1887-1926) charming early 20th century watercolor portrait of a young girl with green ribbons in her auburn hair. Artwork in custom, silver gilt frame measures 16" x 12.5". Frame has light, age appropriate wear. 

Thomas Simpson was born in London. He was an active member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1901 to 1915, first exhibiting eight watercolors from Layer Breton in 1901 and continuing to show regularly in the years that followed, including a group of ten works in 1916.

Simpson’s work was widely exhibited at leading institutions of the time, including the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the New English Art Club—where he showed From Southwold Pier—as well as the Dudley Gallery, Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery, the London Salon, and Walker’s Gallery in London. Among his exhibited works were scenes such as Views at Walberswick.
