An atmospheric maritime watercolor attributed to Charles Taylor (British, 1841–1883). The composition features a vessel flying a red and white flag, identifying it as a pilot ship. A pilot boat approaches to transfer a harbor pilot—an expert in local waters—who would guide the vessel safely into or out of port. Artwork in custom black frame with gilt detailing under old wavy glass measures 21.5" x 29". Artwork and frame in very good, age appropriate condition. Frame has scattered chips and wear, but displays beautifully.
