Early 20th century oil on canvas laid to board stylistically cropped take on William-Adolphe Bouguereau's (French, 1825-1905) L'Amour et Psyche, Enfants. Very finely done. The painting features Greek mythological figures Eros and Psyché, sharing an embrace and kiss. Bouguereau was a classical-style painter in the Neoclassical era of art. The painting is characterized by the frothy background the figures delicately stand on. It depicts the beginning of the forbidden romance of Cupid and Psyche, a popular subject at the time of execution. Artwork in original, antique gilded wood frame measures 23" x 27". Painting is in very good, age appropriate condition with scattered light wear. Frame has allover wear including scuffs to all sides, but displays beautifully.
