Absolutely charming 19th century theorem oil painting on velvet of a large basket of colorful fruits with cherries, strawberries and a butterfly gracing the outskirts of the piece. Theorems were at the height of popularity in American during the early to mid 1800s. Young girls and women painted these as a way to create art for their own homes. It is in its original gold, wood frame, and protected under glass. Artwork in frame measures 20" x 23.75". The artwork and frame are in very good, antique condition with light allover wear. The colors are vibrant and crisp. The velvet has some discoloration most notably around the edges as is typical for velvet of this age. Overall, a beautiful, historic piece.
