19th century soft and moving impressionist landscape oil painting on board by Emile Stange (American / New Jersey, 1863-1943). Signed lower right. Artwork in gold wood frame measures 15.75" x 14". Artwork in very good antique condition with light wear. Frame in good age appropriate condition with scattered light wear.
Stange was an artist and illustrator, as well as a close friend of Corwin Linson and author Stephen Crane. Stange exhibited paintings frequently at the National Academy of Design, the New York Nature Club, the New York Water Color Society, the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Water Color Club, the Boston Academy, the Art Institutes of Chicago, St. Louis, Omaha and Dallas, Tex. His works were also selected by the American Art Federation for its traveling exhibition. He was also a member of the Allied Artists of America, the New York Society of Painters and Sculptors, the American Artists Professional League, and the Salmagundi Club of New York.
