19th century original hand colored lithograph engraved by Richard Gilson Reeve (1803-1889) after the work of James Pollard (1792-1867). The dedication honors the Waltonian Society, an early 19th century angling club named in tribute to Izaak Walton, the legendary author of The Compleat Angler. It depicts two gentlemen wearing Regency-era top hats. One angler is partially hidden by thick foliage, his fly rod deeply bent under the weight of a trout fighting in the swirling river. The second man is sprinting across the field to assist him with landing the fish. Artwork in original wood frame with gilded liner measures 20” x 22.75.”. Artwork and frame both in very good condition.
