1935 watercolor and gouache painting by William Minshall Birchall (American, 1884-1941) depicting the ship, Cutty Sark, on one of her last sails before finding a permanent home in Greenwich, London. Exceptionally detailed. Signed, titled and dated 1935 at lower left. Artwork in original, ornately cornered gold wood frame measures 16.5" x 20.5". Artwork and frame in very good condition with light, age appropriate wear.
William Minshall Birchall (1884-1941) was a marine painter born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He and his parents arrived in London, England at some point during his childhood. Birchall is represented in the Peabody Museum, Salem and the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
