Donald Allen Mosher (1945–2014) was raised on the North Shore, descending from shipbuilders in Nova Scotia and farmers in Maine. His passion for art emerged early, winning his first award at just eight years old. He went on to study at the Vesper George School of Art, where he met his wife, Christine, and graduated in 1968.

Mosher began his professional career soon after, teaching and demonstrating for students while developing his own distinctive style. For nearly two decades, he worked primarily in watercolor before expanding into oil painting in 1988—a medium in which he quickly achieved equal acclaim.

He opened his first gallery on Cape Ann in 1974 and settled in Rockport in 1980, where he would remain for the rest of his life. Over the course of his career, Mosher earned more than 200 awards and was featured in national publications such as Yankee and American Artist magazines. His work is represented in numerous corporate, institutional, and private collections across the United States and abroad, including the Peabody Museum, the Portland Art Museum, and the Massachusetts State House.

Mosher also contributed extensively to the art community, serving as Vice President and Curator of the Rockport Art Association for four years. He was an active member of several organizations, including the Guild of Boston Artists, the New England Watercolor Society, the Copley Society, the International Society of Marine Painters, and the Salmagundi Club.
